Today is the opening of the 2nd Don Miguel Solaroli Cup. Fourteen batches/teams joined the event this year including our batch, batch 96. I would post the pictures later, but I don't know how to post pictures here. I'm too lazy to find out how to add one hehehehe!

Sun Certified Java Associate

I just took the SCJA exam. It was still in beta testing and I'm one of the beta tester, so I was able to take the exam for free. Hopefully, I'll be able to pass it and put it in my resume. It can add to the so called "palamuti" in my resume hehehehe!

One of a kind interview...

Yesterday was one of the worst, no not one of the worst. It's actually the worst interview I've ever had in a company. The interview lasted for more than two hours including a 30 minute problem solving exam. I didn't mind the problem solving exam because I understand it's a part of their hiring process and as a developer you are expected to solve logical problems and this is what the problem solving exam was all about. I was quite tense and tired when I took the exam because I went there after I finish my shift at the office. This showed in the results of my exam wherein I was able to answer only 2 out of the 4 questions. So, after the exam we discussed the answers and we move forward to the technical discussion. Actually, there were 3 people who interviewed me, 2 guys and 1 girl. There was this guy who looks like a nerd with his glasses and from the way he speaks, but the funny thing is he tries very hard to be the "clown" and "comedian" in the group. At first it didn't bother me, but he was later in the interview he was quite annoying. What made me rant about this interview is the way that this clown guy proceeded about the interview. It went something like this:

Clown guy: "So you've been doing developments on a portal, so tell me what is a portal."
pau: "Basically a portal is a blah blah blah....wherein we used portlets and" ( clown guy interrupts)
Clown guy: "So what is this portlet about?"
pau:"Portlets are just web components that generate dynamic contents and blah blah...in which we used a famework and then" ( clown guy interrupts again)
Clown guy:"What is a framework?"
pau:"Framework is a blah blah blah...like a good example is struts which uses a mvc framework (clown guy really loves to interrupt)
Clown guy:"What is struts?"
pau: Struts is....blah blah...I was still explaining struts and I mentioned that I got my knowledge of Struts in a non formal training and then ( clown guy must really really love to interrupt)
Clown guy:"Who taught you Struts?" (It was as if he really cared about who taught me about Struts, but given the fact that he doesn't know anybody who worked at my former company,Fujitsu, I doubt if he really meant to ask that question. )
pau:"Who taught me Struts?" I mentioned the guy's name and then ask him, "Sir, do you know the guy?"
Clown guy: "No"

When he said "no", I told myself, "You see Pau the guy is not really interested in what you have to say, so just relax and try to compose yourself." I've got to do some self coahing back there because I was really getting irritated and agitated with his line of quetioning. I tried to hide my emotions by smiling and nodding whenever its the clown guy's turn to speak up. Apparently, he noticed it and he explained that this is the way they have been interviewed before and its kind of payback thing for them right now given the fact that they are now the interviewers and not the interviewees. I just smiled and nodded, but I was really hoping that the interview will soon be finished because I'm getting tired and it looks like the interview won't be able to serve its purpose. Good thing, one by one they have to leave the room and attend to some important matters. The interview was over.

When I got home and I had the chance to think things over, I told myself that this is not the kind of company and the kind of people that I would want to associate myself with. I know that it was a waste of effort because that was actually my fourth technical interview(I don't know why I had 4 technical interviews when in fact the normal procedure is to have 2 technical interviews and 1 final interview with the HR manager) and after that I was suppose to meet up with the HR manager for the offer. The HR person didn't call me for the job offer. It's fine with me for I would have declined it right there and then. I know and I'm sure that I won't prosper in that company. It's not my lost anyway and there are lots of opportunities out there.

To that clown guy from that company.....Damn you! Fu&*@#*#* Tandaan mo sooner or later magpapainterview ka ulit, wag ka sana makarma!
