Still no money :'(
Its October 31 and I haven't received my salary yet. I think our accounting department has encountered problems in releasing our salaries for this month, so the only thing that we can do is wait. Hmmm...i hope the waiting won't last until November hehehe. Anyway, i noticed that in my whole IT career, of course being an employee, I always have that mind set of collecting my salary every 15th and 30th of the month. My budget always last for 15 days or less. If there will be problems in the releasing of my salary (just like what I'm having right now) then most likely I'll be cash strapped on payday. Poor boy...I think I have problems in managing my cash flow, but who doesn't? Hehehehe...but that's another way of rationalizing the problem. I think the solution to cash flow problems is to acquire more cash...more money...and more properties. Ano ba yun...parang ang selfish ng dating. Hehehe! Ganyan ang nagagawa ng walang pera... |

Starting November 5: Goodbye credit card surcharges
Wondering why you go to some stores and you offer to pay their goods using your credit cards and you end up paying an additional 5-6%? Then, worry no more because starting on November 5, the government bans surcharges on retail transaction. This news was posted at the INQ7.net site last October 26. I think this is a good move for the government to protect the consumers from unfair trade practices of some retailers. On second thought, I think the retailers can play around this rule by increasing the price tags of their commodities for them to cover the credit card surcharges that banks charge from them. Also, they might be force to forego accepting credit card purchases for their goods. On that point, we, the consumers lose. The problem here is credit card companies charge from 3%-6% to the store, that's why the store passes that on to the consumer. Anyway, lets see if the government will be successful in this initiative. |

Being clumsy...
It sucks when you have to go through weekend and you don't have any money left in your pocket, but it sucks more if you injure yourself trying to go down thru the stairs and you land flat on your butt. Given the 175lb frame that I have, it really hurts man. I injured myself last Thursday err , it was already past midnight, so that's already Friday. I just came from overtime work at the office and I just changed to my sleeping attire. I hurriedly went down the stairs because I'm already hungry then I went...Kablog!!! Wahhhh! I applied ice on the affected part, I thought I broke some bones, good thing I didn't. Hay hay hay...so much for clumsiness huh! The affected part looks like an "ube-halaya". If I were still in college, you'd mistake me for a hazing victim hehehehe. I would have posted the pic here, but I wouldn't want to show my butt (if I had Brad Pitt's butt which my former girl office mate salivates about, I would have gladly posted it here, but I don't), so I just dropped the idea, hehehe! :) |

Ginebra goes 4-2
Finally, Ginebra came out of the rut. They won against Coke to the tune of 102-75. After losing to 2 powerhouse teams (i.e. San Miguel and Red Bull), they got their act together and posted their 4th win. You can read the whole story here.
I'm waiting for the next schedule of games where Ginebra will face Red Bull and San Miguel again. The basketball aficionados in the office ( you know, basketball and pba is quite a popular topic during lunch breaks in the office ) are planning to watch the next Ginebra vs San Miguel game live at the Araneta Coliseum. The Ginebra fanatics ( Joe, Dennis/Jasper and Me) are challenging Candy to a bet that if in case San Miguel wins, we will shoulder her ticket expenses (and also Nikki's ticket?), but then if San Miguel loses to Ginebra, it will be the other way around. Sounds fair? Hehehehe...but it seems Ms. Candy is not that confident about her team's chances hehehehe. We'll see. :) |

Going back to Boracay
I went to Boracay last May of this year. That was my first time to experience Boracay and I guess that is not enough because I'm going back this November. Our vacation date will be on the November 5-8. This time I'll go with my officemates to enjoy the paradise that is Boracay! Just in case, some of you guys are curious on our budget for this vacation. I'll give you the details...
We were able to avail of the Cebu Pacific promo for our airfare. The MNL-KAL-MNL flight will cost us about 2635.36 for the whole trip. Tabel took care of fixing our accommodations at Bans. Initially, our option was either we stay at Bans or at La Carmela. Eventually, we settled for Bans because it is situated at Station 1 and it is cheaper compared to La Carmela, but we have to take care of our land and boat transfers. Augs mentioned that it's easy to look for our land and boat transfer, so we dont have to worry about it. At the same time, the extra money saved can be used for the 3 nights of drinking at Bora. :) Anyway, here is the rundown of our expenses.
Plane Fare via Cebu Pac (MNL-KAL-MNL) = 2635.36 Terminal Fee @ the Domestic Airport = 250.00 Terminal Fee @ the Kalibo Airport = 20.00 Hotel Accommodations ( 2300/night/room for 4 peeps ) - (2300 * 3 nights)/4 = 1725.00/pax Van from Kalibo Airport to Caticlan = estimated @ 400.00 (roundtrip) Boat from Caticlan to Station 3 = 90.00(roundtrip) [ P20.00(to bora)+P50.00(terminal/insurance fee)+20.00(to caticlan) ] Tricycle from Station 3 to Resort = estimated @ 50.00
Total Amount = 5170.36
Of course, you have to take into consideration your budget for food, island hopping, bar hopping, shopping for pasalubongs and the like. This is pretty much on a case to case basis, but I think a budget of 3000 would be enough to tide you over for 4 days. Of course, bringing some extra moolah won't hurt( 5000, I think is a pretty decent amount). So, all in all thats about 8000 pesoses for off peak Boracay for 4d/3n. Sounds good? We'll see. :)
By the way, thanks to Tabel for providing us with a very elaborate listing of our expenses. :)

Apple updates the Macbook Pro

Finally...after spending a lot of time in Macbook-related forums and looking for leads as to when Apple will upgrade its Macbook/Macbook Pro to C2D(Core 2 Duo)...
Today, Apple announced that its entire MacBook Pro line of notebooks now includes the new Intel Core 2 Duo processor and delivers performance that is up to 39 percent faster than the previous generation. Read the full article here. While I'm saving money to buy a Mac, I hope that the Macbook will also be upgraded to C2D. I can't afford a MBP!

Dissecting the Lifecycle of A Blog:Developing Tools to Improve its Lifespan
Whooaa! What a title! Hehehe...this is entry is all about my thesis proposal. Finally, after laboring for almost a month, I was able to present my topic to Sir John Paul V. and Boogie B. They did approve it and that only means one thing...I'm cleared to proceed to thesis proper. Thesis proper is the final 6 units worth of academic load that I need to finish in order to be bestowed a Masteral Degree in Information Management. I'll be giving updates on my thesis here in my blog, just in case there are people out there who would be interested in my topic. |

Tiger Airways Promo
Tiger Airways has a week long promo that is valid from October 2-8.They are giving us a 40% off from the ticket price . I tried booking for a MNL(CLARK)-SING-MNL(CLARK) with a flight date of February 2007 and here is the computation that I got:
Departure (Lowest Fare) 1 Adult at 16.75 USD 16.75 USD Taxes and Fees (details) 24.84 USD Return (Lowest Fare) 1 Adult at 16.75 USD 16.75 USD Taxes and Fees (details) 33.93 USD
Total Cost of Flight 92.27 USD
We then convert the dollar amount to peso ( 1$ = 51 to be safe ). 92.27 * 51 = 4705.77 pesos.
Add to that amount the travel tax, airport fee and then the cost of going from Manila and vice versa via Philtranco and here is what we got:
Plane fare = 4705.77 Travel Tax = 1650.00 Airport Fee = 350.00 Philtranco (roundtrip) = 600.00
Total Amount = 7305.77
So for just 7K+++ you can go to Singapore via Tiger Airways. Of course, you still have to take into consideration your accommodation cost and pocket money. I'll do some research first and just wait for my next blog entry. =)

Its been a while...
Yes! It's been a while since I've made an entry in my blog. I have so many topics I had in mind, but it's just that I can't find time to type it in here. Too bad, those were opportunities lost. Just to give you an update on what's happenin' with me, I'll give you a rundown of what had transpired in the last 6 months: March - got myself a new Canon camera: The Canon S2 IS. This served as a backup cam to my not-so-reliable Canon A80. At the same time, this was the camera that I brought when we went to Bora. - booked Bohol for 3 days (September 16-18), availed of the 10-peso fare promo of Cebu Pac. May - Boracay finally! Vane and I, together with my kada (we were 13 all in all), went to Bora last May 13-16. The date of the vacation should have been May 12-15, but a typhoon almost spoiled our vacation. Still, the beauty of Bora made our vacation a worth while experience. Hoping I could go back again, so I can take a shot of the famous Bora sunset ( bad typhoon! it didn't give me the opportunity to photograph the sunset of Bora ). - I thought I've be working for my 4th company, but God had other plans. June - Damn that IT Research subject. I went on a floating status because I was not able to present a topic for my thesis. July - Rosette, my good friend and classmate, invited Vane and I to join them in an outreach for lolo's and lola's somewhere in Tayuman. I forgot the name of the center. It was really a good experience. I'm hoping I can do that every now and then. - First time to try to drink at Cena and Vodka bar at Greenbelt. - This is a month to remember in terms of wasting my finances hehehe! Enuf said. August - EK, again! After 3 years. Too bad, the weather spoiled all the day's fun.Still, it was a day well spent. - First time to try the Absinth bar at Greenbelt. I won't drink Absinth again, ever! - I like the seaside view at SM's Mall of Asia. It's very relaxing. I wish I could go back there again. - Boracay in November...still remains to be seen if it will push thru. September - I thought I suffered a hernia because of excessive lifting and playing basketball. Thank God, I didn't! Just pulled some muscles. - Vane's sister got married. - ^^^ That's the reason why the Bohol trip was cancelled. Plus the fact that we were not able to raise enough moolah for our budget and she has to enroll in her own grad studies. - Hooked on everything Mac, specifically the Macbook. Just need to raise some money for it. I want a Macbook :'( |
